Video can bring your site to life - whether it’s a brand intro, a product walkthrough, or background motion. Webflow supports video embeds in most areas of your site, including static pages and CMS collections.
Here’s how to do it right.
Using YouTube or Vimeo
This is the most common way to add video - and the most performance-friendly.
- Copy the video’s share link from YouTube or Vimeo
- Paste it into the video URL field in the CMS (if the page is dynamic)
- Or embed it using a video block or custom embed on static pages
Webflow automatically converts these links into responsive video players.
Tip: Use the clean share URL (without tracking parameters or timestamps) when possible.
Uploading custom video files
If you need to upload your own video (e.g. for background video):
- Open the Webflow Designer
- Add a Background Video element from the Add panel
- Upload your .mp4 file (must be under 30MB)
- Adjust playback settings if needed (loop, mute, autoplay)
Note: Webflow doesn’t host large video files for playback - if you want to display full videos, YouTube or Vimeo is the way to go.
Using video in the CMS
If your site includes a video gallery, project library, or blog that supports video:
- You’ll have a video URL field in the CMS Collection
- Just paste your YouTube or Vimeo link there and hit publish
- The layout and player will update automatically
This keeps your content flexible and easy to manage - no design changes needed.
Accessibility tip
Always include a short description of the video or a transcript below, especially if it includes important messaging or voiceover. It helps users and search engines understand your content.
