The Asset Manager is your library of everything you’ve uploaded to your site - images, PDFs, icons, and more. Whether you’re replacing a photo or linking to a document, this is where your files live.
Here’s how to use it properly.
Accessing the Asset Manager
You can open the Asset Manager in the Webflow Designer by clicking the folder icon in the left-hand panel.
From here, you can:
- Upload new files
- Rename files
- Delete unused assets
- Search for previously uploaded content
If you’re using the Webflow Editor, you’ll only see the file upload window when replacing an image - not the full asset library.
Uploading new assets
Click the Upload button and select your file. Supported formats include:
- JPG, PNG, SVG for images
- MP4 for video (limited use)
- PDF for documents
Try to keep files under 500KB for images and under 2MB for PDFs.
Renaming and organising
Unfortunately, Webflow doesn’t support folders - but you can still:
- Give your files clear names (e.g. “team-sam-2025.jpg” not “IMG_2038”)
- Use the search bar to find older assets
- Keep versions tidy by deleting duplicates you no longer need
Replacing an image
To replace an existing image with a new one:
- Upload your new image
- Select it in the Asset Manager
- Use it in place of the old one - it won’t automatically overwrite
You’ll need to manually swap it in wherever it appears.
Deleting unused assets
Webflow doesn’t delete files automatically. To keep things clean:
- Regularly review your Asset Manager
- Remove anything that’s not being used
- Be careful - deleting a file will break it wherever it’s still linked
