When your site appears in search engines, it shows a title and a short description. These are known as meta titles and meta descriptions, and they help both Google and users understand what the page is about.
Webflow gives you control over this content — here’s how to update it.
Page-level SEO
For standard pages (like your homepage, about page, or contact page):
- Open the Webflow Designer (not the Editor)
- Click on the page you want to edit in the Pages panel
- Click the settings (gear) icon
- Scroll down to the SEO Settings section
- Enter your Title Tag (the clickable link in Google)
- Add a Meta Description (the short text below the link)
Keep the title under 60 characters and the description under 160.
CMS-level SEO
For blog posts or other CMS items, SEO settings are managed inside the CMS template:
- Go to the CMS Collection (e.g. Blog Posts)
- Open an individual item
- Look for the SEO & Open Graph tab
- You can write static text or use fields like {{Name}} or {{Summary}} to auto-generate SEO
This is handy if you want consistent SEO across a large number of items.
Best practices
- Be clear, not clever — your title should match what’s on the page
- Avoid stuffing keywords — one or two is enough
- Write for humans first, Google second
- Make each title and description unique
Preview before publishing
Some SEO changes might take time to show in Google, but you can use tools like Google’s Rich Results Test to preview how your content might appear.
