Your domain is your website’s home - like yourbusiness.com. If you’re updating it (maybe from a placeholder to a permanent name), there’s a right way to do it to avoid downtime or broken links.
Here’s how it works.
When should you change your domain?
Common reasons include:
- Rebranding or renaming your business
- Moving from a temporary launch domain to your main one
- Consolidating multiple domains
- Finally getting hold of the .com you wanted
If your site is already live, we’ll plan the change carefully so everything stays online.
What we need from you
Send us:
- The new domain name
- Where it’s registered (e.g. GoDaddy, Google Domains, IONOS)
- Login or collaborator access (we’ll guide you through this securely)
- A date you’d like the change to go live
We’ll handle the technical side and test everything before making the switch.
What we do behind the scenes
- Add the new domain to your Webflow hosting
- Set it as the default so it loads your site
- Update DNS records via your registrar
- Add 301 redirects if needed (so old links still work)
- Recheck SSL, analytics, and SEO settings
If you’re changing email setups too (like info@yourbusiness.com), let us know - we’ll coordinate with your provider so nothing breaks.
After the change
- Your new domain will load your site
- Your old domain (if kept) can redirect to the new one
- Google will be re-crawled automatically, but we can request indexing faster if needed
- Analytics and tracking will continue uninterrupted
Tip
Avoid changing domains right before a big campaign or event. Give it a few days for the changes to settle.
