Editing your site shouldn’t feel risky. Webflow gives you a few simple ways to undo changes, recover from mistakes, or exit without saving anything.
Here’s how to do it safely.
Undo in the Editor
If you’re using the Webflow Editor (the version that sits on top of your live site):
- Click anywhere outside the editable field to save your change
- To undo a recent change, just refresh the page - it won’t be saved unless you publish
- Not happy with a change? Simply don’t hit Publish — it won’t go live
In the Editor, nothing goes public until you hit that green Publish button.
Undo in the Designer
If you’re using the Webflow Designer (the full build view):
- Press Cmd + Z (Mac) or Ctrl + Z (Windows) to undo
- You can also use the Undo and Redo arrows in the top toolbar
- Webflow autosaves versions as you work — so you can roll back if needed
Restore from backups
Webflow automatically creates backups every time you publish. To access them:
- Open the Designer
- Click the Project Settings
- Go to the Backups tab
- Choose a version to restore
You can name backups manually too - useful before making big changes.
Tip for CMS users
When editing CMS items, changes are saved instantly - but they won’t show on your site until you publish. So if you make a mistake, you can either:
- Fix it and re-publish
- Revert fields manually
- Or unpublish the item and come back to it later
