Speed matters. A slow website feels clunky, loses visitors, and can even hurt your search rankings. That’s why we optimise every Linford-built site before launch - but there are still things you should know (and avoid) post-launch.
What we’ve already done
We handle a lot of performance work before launch, including:
- Optimising images for web
- Minifying code and scripts
- Lazy-loading content
- Cleaning up unused assets
- Setting up global styles and reusable components
If your site feels fast - that’s by design.
What affects load time
Things that can slow your site down over time:
- Uploading large, uncompressed images
- Embedding too many third-party scripts (e.g. calendars, social feeds)
- Auto-playing videos
- Overuse of animations or interactions
- Heavy CMS content without structure
Most of this can be managed with care - or fixed if you flag it.
How to keep things fast
Here’s what you can do:
- Keep image files under 500KB
- Avoid uploading duplicate files
- Use YouTube or Vimeo for video
- Don’t overload pages with too many CMS items (e.g. 50 blog posts on one page)
- Check how your site performs on mobile - it’s usually the slowest
If you’re unsure about file size or layout, ask us - we’ll review it.
Want a full speed report?
We can run a detailed PageSpeed audit using tools like:
- Google PageSpeed Insights
- GTmetrix
- WebPageTest
This helps identify hidden issues like font loading, server response times, or CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift).
Just let us know - we’ll send you a breakdown and help fix anything that needs attention.
