We build most sites in Webflow because it’s fast, flexible, and easy to manage. But if you ever decide to move your site elsewhere, it helps to understand what can be exported, and what stays behind.
Here’s a clear breakdown.
You can export static code
Webflow allows you to export the front-end code of your site. This includes:
- HTML files
- CSS stylesheets
- JavaScript
- Uploaded images and assets
You can use this to host your site on a different platform like Netlify, Vercel, or your own server.
You cannot export dynamic features
Some Webflow features only work inside the Webflow platform. These do not come with the export:
- CMS content and structure
- Site search
- Forms and form settings
- Editor access
- Webflow-specific animations or interactions
If your site uses Webflow CMS or forms, those parts will stop working unless rebuilt manually on your new platform.
You’ll lose hosting and publishing features
When you export your site:
- It will no longer be hosted on Webflow
- You will need to set up your own hosting and connect your domain
- SSL, backups, and performance tools will need to be handled separately
This gives you full control, but also full responsibility.
Why you might export
Exporting makes sense if:
- You’re switching platforms and rebuilding anyway
- You need a static version of your site for a specific reason
- You want to hand over code to a developer or archive your work
If you’re just looking to make updates or save costs, exporting might not be the best option.
How to export
- Log into the Webflow Designer
- Click the export icon (top right)
- Download the zipped folder of files
- Upload to your new hosting platform
